Dean’s Welcome

I’d like to extend to you my sincere welcome on behalf of the entire faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Nursing. You are joining a strong community dedicated to preparing caring and scholarly nurse leaders.

Given the changes in society and healthcare, it is vital that nurse graduates possess the knowledge and skills required of them to excel in increasingly inter-professional and global environments. The UW Oshkosh College of Nursing recognizes that all professional nurses must be competent leaders and scholars who deliver care that is cutting edge, compassionate, and culturally sensitive. We value professionalism, ethics, integrity, and a commitment to the ideals of the nursing profession. We imbue in our students a commitment to diversity and social justice. The exposure of students to people of diverse backgrounds and international experiences instills a broader perspective of the individual’s place and responsibility within the broader community.

We offer a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs that offer the latest in nursing education in accordance with our profession and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), our accrediting organization. We have strong partnerships with a variety of community and clinical organizations many of whom have supported the College of Nursing for many years. These partnerships enable our students to obtain a wide spectrum of clinical experience to prepare them to function as nurses in a changing healthcare environment.

Our faculty are experts in the areas in which they teach and are supported by an exceptional staff whose commitment to students is unparalleled. The faculty are recognized within and beyond Wisconsin for their scholarly work and participation in moving the nursing profession forward to meet the needs of the future.

We have many exceptional resources and opportunities within the College of Nursing and the university. As a student, you will have the opportunity to develop strong and lasting relationships with both students and professors. Students are encouraged to engage in nursing and interdisciplinary research and in other scholarly activities and projects under the mentorship of faculty scholars. Study abroad opportunities enable students to explore the delivery of healthcare in other parts of the world. Our Living Healthy Community Clinic provides a venue for students and faculty to give back to the surrounding community by offering healthcare services to people who might not otherwise have access to these services.

High fidelity simulation and laboratory equipment allow students to develop confidence before and while practicing their skills in real clinical environments. The College of Nursing has new laboratories, classrooms, and simulation equipment to rival others in Wisconsin.

We have many exciting things happening at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Nursing and we are pleased to have you join our community of caring faculty, staff, and students. I am confident that your years here will provide you with the strong foundation you will need as you embark on your lifelong journey as a professional nurse. Please take advantage of all we have to offer!

Best regards,
